We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join Procore’s Product & Technology Team. In this Senior Software Engineer role, you'll contribute to our Document Management Service, a critical microservice that handles document storage, processing, and collaboration features for construction teams. You’ll partner with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to build scalable, reliable systems that enable construction professionals to manage their project documents efficiently. Use your expertise in backend development, system design, and mentoring to deliver high-quality solutions that directly impact our customers' productivity.

What you’ll do:

• Design and implement robust backend services using NestJS, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL to handle document management workflows
• Build and maintain event-driven architectures using CQRS patterns, Kafka, and BullMQ for asynchronous job processing
• Develop and optimize database schemas, queries, and migrations using Prisma ORM to ensure data integrity and performance
• Create comprehensive APIs and integrate with external services including Elasticsearch for search functionality and Redis for caching
• Implement security best practices including authentication, authorization, and data validation across all service endpoints
• Write and maintain high-quality, testable code with comprehensive unit and integration tests using Jest
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architecture decisions to maintain code quality standards
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing through documentation and technical guidance
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to deploy and monitor services in Kubernetes environments using Helm charts
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement solutions to improve system reliability
• Work with product teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications
• Contribute to the development of microservice patterns and best practices within the engineering organization
  
  

What we’re looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js with experience building scalable backend services
• Experience with modern web frameworks (NestJS, Express.js) and understanding of RESTful API design principles
• Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues (Kafka, BullMQ), and asynchronous processing patterns
• Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker) and container orchestration (Kubernetes)
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and understanding of microservices architecture patterns
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional team environment
