We’re looking for a Director of Engineering, Authentication to join Procore’s Product & Technology Team. Procore software solutions aim to improve the lives of everyone in construction and the people within Product & Technology are the driving force behind our innovative, top-rated global platform. In this Director of Engineering, Authentication role, you’ll lead the development and implementation of robust authentication systems and frameworks to protect our digital assets and ensure efficient and secure user access. You’ll partner with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Design, Security, and business leaders, to drive strategic technical direction and oversee the execution of authentication strategies. Use your leadership, technical expertise, and organizational skills to build highly effective systems and practices, foster collaborative relationships, and deliver value to our customers.

What you’ll do:

• Develop and execute Procore’s authentication strategy: Own the engineering strategy for user authentication. Design and implement resilient, scalable, secure, and user-friendly authentication solutions that align with business goals and technological advancements.
• Lead and mentor a high-performing engineering team: Grow and lead multiple teams, oversee managers, and build a strong engineering group. Foster a collaborative, inclusive environment, ensuring team growth and success.
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement: Stay informed on emerging authentication trends. Implement innovative solutions to enhance security and user experience. Align with senior leaders on technical and cultural excellence initiatives.
• Collaborate cross-functionally: Work with senior leaders across the business to execute a vision for scalable, secure solutions. Make pragmatic staffing and prioritization decisions, ensuring solutions align with business goals.
• Ensure compliance and security: Lead teams to deliver secure authentication frameworks (MFA, SSO). Implement robust security protocols and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, such as FedRAMP.
• Manage project timelines and deliverables: Oversee project planning, execution, and delivery, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Enhance user experience: Continuously evaluate and improve authentication patterns to enhance user experience without compromising security.
• Report on risks, key metrics, and performance: Identify, report on, and mitigate authentication-related risks. Monitor and report on authentication system performance, providing insights, team strategy, and recommendations to stakeholders for ongoing improvements.

What we’re looking for:

• Proven Leadership: Demonstrated experience designing, leading, and inspiring engineering organizations that deliver critical infrastructure and services with strong uptime requirements.
• Domain Expertise: In-depth knowledge of authentication standards, frameworks, lifecycle management, and technologies such as MFA, SSO, SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, and customer identity platforms like Okta, Auth0, and Ping Identity.
• Influence and Communication: Ability to represent complex business or technical architectural concepts both internally and externally, effectively communicating to influence key stakeholders at all levels and promote a culture of engineering excellence.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Demonstrated history of building strong cross-functional relationships that foster deep engagements and drive change within an organization, promoting innovation and continuous improvement.
• Strategic and Operational Skills: Ability to create and maintain a technical strategy and execution plan, driving operational transformation through automation and continuous process improvements. Organizational savvy to navigate and manage ambiguous and complex scenarios, distilling ambiguity into clarity and direction.
