Location

This role is on-site. Candidates must be based within a 50-mile commuting distance of the Phoenix, AZ office location and able to commute to the office on a daily basis, 4 days/week.

About the Role

We are seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee the daily operations of our accounting team and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and U.S. GAAP compliance of all financial activities. This role leads month-end and year-end close, manages audits, implements process improvements to support scalable growth, and provides supervision and mentorship to accounting staff.

What You'll Do

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Lead the month-end close process, including reviewing and approving journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Manage accounting for key areas such as property accounting, legal expenses, leases, equity, internally developed software (IDSW), and other areas as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly financial statement disclosures.
  • Be a key point of contact for Opendoor’s external auditors and support their control and substantive testing procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and internal controls (SOX) to support scalable growth.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to shorten close timelines, automate manual tasks (including through AI tools), and enhance the quality and efficiency of accounting data and reporting.

Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate accounting staff, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of work.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance & Strategy, Engineering, Investor Relations, Legal, Operations, and Workplace teams to streamline data and improve processes.

What You'll Need

  • Education: A completed degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, self-motivate, and independently manage time.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills.
  • Clear, concise, and effective communication skills (verbal, written, interpersonal).
  • Ability to work in a fast-growing, dynamic, and team environment.

Bonus Points For

  • Licensed CPA or CPA candidate.
  • Experience working in a SOX control environment.
  • Experience at a publicly traded company or high-growth private company.
  • Real estate accounting experience.
  • NetSuite or other ERP experience.

Compensation

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. Base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The U.S. pay range for this position is $98,400 - $123,000 annually. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on your qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We also offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, 12 paid holidays per year, medical/dental/vision insurance, basic life insurance, and 401(k) to eligible employees.
