About the Role
Industrious is at a once in a lifetime inflection point, transitioning from being a late stage growth startup to an independent business unit of the world’s largest real estate company. This next phase is all about figuring out how to make the most of the platform we’re now a part of, including nurturing our #soindustrious team, bringing our expertise in workplace experience to millions of people around the world, building new products, and doing it all with sustainable economics.
Anna (our President) is looking for a Chief of Staff who will play a huge role in making this next phase a success.
Winning in this Chief of Staff role means:
Our executive and leadership teams are working together effectively, efficiently, with our values driving our decisions, and with a ton of joy and laughter
Anna’s impact doubles because you’re a superb thought partner and executor who can anticipate what’s around the next bend, take things off her plate, and give her real feedback
Complex, highly cross-functional, or ambiguous projects get moved forward to results with clarity and speed
You make the teammates around you stronger and more effective each day
Our Industrious team culture is like a reduced balsamic vinegar: distilled down to the best parts that get better with every passing year, and you want to put it on everything
You’ll love this role and succeed at it if:
You have been told you have a superpower in building trust with other people. You love getting to know your colleagues as people, easily influence without authority, and enjoy making other people successful.
You are a clear, top down communicator verbally and in writing. Staring at a blank sheet of paper is no biggie, and you feel reasonably confident crafting storylines that are memorable for lots of different audiences
You are lower ego than most people you know and genuinely want to give and receive feedback. For real. You relish learning opportunities and take a proactive role in your own growth and development
You have a goofy, creative streak, and you like to plan gatherings. Ideally together. In recent memory, you’ve gotten together a group of friends, family, or colleagues to do something weirdly memorably
You have really good judgment on 49/51 questions. You’ve seen tricky people problems, no-right-answer customer questions, and thorny prioritization issues and are quick to make a thoughtful recommendation
You are weirdly good at the macro and the micro. You feel as comfortable in a discussion about our 5 year strategy as what color the paper invites to our next offsite should be, and you dive headfirst into both kinds of things
You consider yourself an AI early adopter. You are knowledgeable and excited about how to set up Anna and Industrious’ exec team with practical AI tools and workflows
You’re energized by debating out loud in real time. In a fast-moving conversation, you get to the heart of what matters and then use that to move the conversation to ‘so whats.
You are a sharp business thinker who can easily spin forward the financial implications of decisions we make today. You know how to recognize patterns in a P&L and sniff out what’s likely to create upside and risks in the future.
You like being in a supporting role. You like the idea of being in a role that is sometimes very visible, but at other times totally behind-the-scenes.
You could be someone else’s amazing Chief of Staff, but not to Anna if:
You do your best work when you have a defined ‘lane,’ or with a defined task list that someone else helps you create
You get stressed out doing stuff kind of at the last minute (you can help Anna do this less, but it can’t freak you out!)
You’d rather not do quantitative analysis, all things equal.
You like to be an expert at something to feel confident having an opinion about it.
You do your best thinking when you ruminate on something alone
A long to-do list makes you anxious
You aren’t able to be in-person with Anna in NYC at least a few days/week
What You Bring to the Table:
We hire for skills over pedigree, but the strongest candidates will have:
8–12+ years of senior-level operating experience in high-growth or scaled environments (e.g., strategy & operations, GM roles, chief of staff, or consulting plus in-house leadership).
Proven cross-functional execution, you’ve led complex initiatives and projects across multiple departments and delivered measurable results.
Financial fluency, comfortable reading a P&L and anticipating the business implications of strategic decisions.
