We’re Impulse. We’re a team of engineers, designers and innovators based in San Francisco who believe making good decisions for your home and the environment should not come at a cost to your lifestyle. We’re dedicated to building delightful, high-performance products for everyday needs that enable rewarding, long-term, scalable solutions for whole-home electrification.

We're looking for individuals excited to join an early-stage, VC-backed growing company with powerful aspirations to make positive change in a major industry - come build with us!

About the role:

As a Software Technical Program Manager at Impulse, you will lead the delivery of the novel, vertically integrated software that powers our innovative hardware products. This role entails the management of the entire software ecosystem, including firmware, embedded systems, mobile applications, and cloud infrastructure. You will serve as the backbone for software execution, working closely with our software engineers, product managers, hardware technical program managers, and our executive team.

As a Software Technical Program Manager at Impulse, you will:

  • Lead the software development management process for one or more Impulse products, including software running on and adjacent to our physical products

  • Work across many aspects of the business with a strong day-to-day focus on execution management

  • Represent the software team and its priorities across the organization

  • Work closely with other Technical Program Managers to align milestones and work within the schedule constraints imposed by hardware builds and availability

  • Work closely with counterparts in other Impulse organizations, such as Hardware Engineering, Product, Marketing, and Operations, to aid in the transition from architecture to product launch

  • Work closely with leadership to identify organizational needs and implement solutions

  • Maintain, evolve, and wield the custom tooling used for project management within Impulse

  • Have the opportunity to shape the responsibilities of your role based on your competencies and interests

  • Travel (5-10%) both domestically and internationally

We’re looking for:

  • Experience with building and managing agile project management processes from the ground up

  • Deep experience working with products that touch several of the following areas: cloud infrastructure, mobile application development and distribution, user interface design, web product development, firmware, and embedded systems development

  • Experience working in consumer electronics, energy systems, or automotive industries is a plus

  • Prior systems or project engineering roles and experience with requirements definition and management is a plus

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; you will be working within a globally-distributed team in different time zones and conciseness is key

  • Strong reasoning and analytical skills and the ability to make and explain difficult decisions; you’ll be expected (and empowered!) to make decisions for the entire organization

  • Ability to prioritize, execute, and delegate tasks within a large workload

  • Comfortable working at a Series A hardware startup with all that entails; if you’re interested but unsure what life at Impulse is like, make sure to ask us all about it when you connect with us!

What’s in it for you:

  • Meaningful equity in a fast-moving company with top investors

  • Generous benefits include health, vision, dental, commuter, and fitness.

  • Help define culture for a diverse, inclusive, and global team.

We are growing quickly so if you’re interested in joining us but don’t see a job that fits what you’re looking for or if your experience doesn’t quite check all the boxes, please feel free to reach out - we’re happy to connect.

Impulse is an equal-opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and prohibit discrimination and harassment. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees where everyone feels safe and welcome.

Base salary range:

$160,000/yr - $195,000/yr

Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience. This is a remote role.
