Title: Senior Business Intelligence Engineer

Location: Austin, TX / Dallas, TX

Reporting To: Sr. Manager, Data Engineering and BI Engineering

Work Environment: Hybrid (2-3 Days/week in the office)

About Hippo:

Hippo is a high-growth technology-first company that is challenging the insurance industry. Our approach is to modernize home insurance offerings thanks to our own insurance software, from incorporating smart home monitoring to offering a one-of-a-kind online experience that drastically simplifies the application process. Led by a strong team of passionate business and technology veterans, we're rapidly expanding by inviting great engineers to join our talented team.

Hippo is solving complex engineering, data, regulatory and operational problems that have immediate impact on this antiquated industry. We're on a strong growth trajectory, extending a suite of products with a strong product-market fit, as well as building MVPs of new offerings.

We're looking for a talented Senior Business Intelligence Engineer who is excited to tackle large cross-functional problems and make their mark on how the company uses data for decision-making capabilities as well as how we report data for compliance purposes. This tenacious analytics professional will take ownership over how business teams view data, focusing on supercharging analytics capabilities, and optimizing consumer experience of our data warehouse. An ideal candidate brings constant curiosity, a passion for communicating through data, and the ability to align a diverse set of stakeholders around KPIs and metrics definitions.

About You:

You are curious, self-motivated, highly logical, and have strong attention to detail. You show bias toward action, making an impact, and developing systematic data solutions instead of ad hoc analyses or dashboards for highly individualized metrics. You excel at independently translating business questions into clearly aligned projects and technical requirements, performing thorough data analysis, and crafting clear executive level summaries. You have superior business intuition and independently generate and test hypotheses. You focus on the big picture and demonstrate good judgement when prioritizing work based on business impact.

What You'll Do:

  • Own the reporting and analytics presentation layer of the data warehouse and Tableau for a set of business domains with well aligned and defined KPIs for single source of truth metric tracking
  • Support internal and external stakeholders ensuring all new products have proper data measurement capabilities by collaborating with business, product, engineering, and data engineering
  • Democratize data insights by building self-service analytical capabilities
  • Drive data best practices by giving inputs on technical designs, providing peer reviews, and championing analytics best practices, data security, and optimized code performance

Must Haves:

  • 5+ years of industry experience in an Analytics/BI Engineering role (or 4+ years with advanced degree)
  • Degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, or another quantitative field
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, and data visualization
  • Hands-on experience with data pipelines and ETLs and committing thoroughly tested code
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to independently deliver end-to-end projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to present complex findings to non-technical audiences

Nice to Haves:

  • Strong proficiency in Tableau
  • Working knowledge in Python
  • Prior experience with finance and accounting data or data pertaining to risk management
