About you:
Hippo is a fast-paced and innovative company, and we're looking for a Sr. Manager, Financial Operations who is excited to join our team and help us to continue to grow and succeed. You will be a key member of the Finance/Accounting team delivering support to Hippo Operations Teams within billing service, sales commission management, treasury, and claims to achieve best in class customer service. You have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. You have an ability to understand business needs and apply financial checks and controls.
What You’ll do:
- Lead and manage a team of financial operations support professionals
- Oversee key aspects of the company's operations, including:
- billing service – premium collection intake, premium refunds, A/R aging and bad debt, supporting billing disputes
- sales commissions – managing commission statements, commission payments, chargebacks, and supporting agency management with commission inquiries
- treasury – processing wire transfers, support premium and claims trust management, balancing to premium collection and claims payment reporting
- claims operations – support claims payment processing, claims recoveries, ad hoc claim payments, aging of outstanding claims payments and escheatment process
- Conduct financial analysis to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
- Work with operations teams to develop and implement financial policies and procedures
- Support in the development and implementation of new technologies within operations
- Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations
- Work with Accounting to establish and maintain audit controls
- Work with other departments to develop and implement strategic plans
Must Haves:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in financial operations or financial management
- 2 -3 years of people management
- Effective leadership and communication skills
- Experience with performance management for operations
- Strong project management skills with a successful track record of managing cross-functional initiatives
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality
- Understanding of banking and cash management systems
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with insurance industry specific operations
- Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance, GAAP
- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
